Berkeley Innovation is UC Berkeley’s first student-run design organization since 2003. As a human-centered design consultancy, they work with clients on projects ranging from physical to digital products, brands, and experiences.
As part of my application to the Fall ‘23 Consultant Class, I was tasked with completing a design challenge with a 4-day turnaround time, centered around promoting and fostering community engagement.

Problem Scope
Whether it’s cultural, religious, interest-based, or geographic, the communities we belong to play an integral role in shaping our identities and lives. Despite the important role of community, many individuals remain on the sidelines, feeling disconnected or unsure of how to contribute.
We believe that a more engaged community can lead to stronger connections among residents, greater empowerment for individuals, and ultimately, positive change. Strengthening these bonds and encouraging participation is essential for addressing local challenges, whether they are related to social issues, personal livelihood, or improving community services.
With this in mind, the design challenge is: How Might We encourage community involvement?
Outcome
🎉 I received an offer from Berkeley Innovation to join their Fall class of ‘23 as a design consultant!
